Definitely check out the 4D movie. The tomb was fairly mundane. The mansion tour is not a private tour yet still very entertaining and educational. We spent the entire afternoon here but you could easily spend an entire day. It's not just a house it's a plantation and practically an entire village. Would highly recommend checking out this piece of American history.
Great historic place for a tour with the family/friends. The house itself is not too big, so it is possible to remember what you see while on tour. The surrounding grounds are a delight to walk through. Be sure to visit the wharf if you can.
Fun and great learning experience. I loved seeing this historical home. They don’t allow photos inside the home which stinks because I like to remember it. It was very informative and definitely worth doing. The grounds are beautiful and you are riverfront. The view is amazing.
No need to book a tour bus or have a car to get there. You can take the Metro to a Huntington Station, then exit the lower level to catch the 101 Bus to Mt Vernon. It does make a number of stops, but not bad.
Love this place. Highly recommend visiting during the Christmas illumination. Drink hot cider with the soldiers around the fire. Fireworks over the Potomac River. Tour the mansion with Christmas decorations from the period. Wonderful.
Wow! What a great place! Make sure you allow at least half a day if not more on the grounds. So beautiful and interesting!
